A Poem

And now, for a nice poem I wrote inspired by a couple different songs.
It is written is the perspective if the Iraqi citizens whose prayer's were answered by the arrival of our troops. It reads:

Hurrah for the Men of the West!
-Sam Carpenter-

When you honor in song and in story
The names of the patriot men,
Whose valor has covered with glory
Full many a mountain and glen,
Forget not the boys of the olden
Who rallied their bravest and best
When terrorism reigned over Bahgdad
Who looked for revenge to the West?
I give you the gallant old West, boys,
Where rallied our bravest and best
When the Mideast lay broken and bleeding;
Hurrah for the men of the West!

The hilltops with glory were glowing
'Twas the eve of a bright harvest day,
When the news they’d been wearily waiting
Came over the mountains that day
And over the hills went the slogan
To awaken in every breast
The fire that has never been quenched, boys,
Among the true hearts of the West.
I give you the gallant old West, boys,
Where rallied our bravest and best
When the Mideast lay broken and bleeding;
Hurrah for the men of the West!

Salvation was ours ere the midnight,
And high over the’ town of Basrah
Our banners in triumph were waving
And all gave a mighty hurrah!
We gathered to speed the good work, boys
And yea every child was glad;
And history can tell how we routed
The terrorists thoughout old Baghdad.
I give you the gallant old West, boys,
Where rallied our bravest and best
When the Mideast lay broken and bleeding;
Hurrah for the men of the West!

Pledge me the stout sons America
Old Georgie’ and all his brave men,
Whose tramp, like the trumpet of battle,
Brought hope to the drooping again.
Since Iraq has caught to her bosom
On many a mountain and hill
The gallants who fell, so they're here, boys,
To cheer us to victory still.
I give you the gallant old West, boys,
Where rallied our bravest and best
When the Mideast lay broken and bleeding;
Hurrah for the men of the West!

Though all the bright dreamings we cherished
Went down in disaster and woe,
The spirit of old is still with us
That never would bend to the foe.
Our jets are ready whenever
The loud rolling tuck of the drum
Rings out to awaken the echoes
And tell us the morning has come.
I give you the gallant old West, boys,
Where rallied our bravest and best
When the Mideast lay broken and bleeding;
Hurrah For the Men of The West!
Hurrah For the Men of the West!
Hurrah For the Men of the West!

“The battle is now joined on many fronts. We will not waver; we will not tire; we will not falter; and we will not fail. Peace and freedom will prevail.
Thank you. May God continue to bless America” -President George Bush

You seriously need to get that published. That was incredible.

Thanks! That means a lot. I think I'll send that along to Old Georgie himself.

I agree. Very nicely done. It doesn't have a forced sound to it, and the style sounds poetic and grand. Very inspiring. :)

Very nice. I liked how eloquent and lyrical it was. I agree with what elicia says. :)
